Research in the tobacco control field dates back for decades and until now impressive amount of scientific evidence is accumulated as a result of numerous collaborative research projects and academic studies. Currently, hundreds of scientific publications in specialized tobacco control and public health peer-reviewed journals are published yearly. Even though such an important effort in terms of human resources and funds is devoted to tobacco control research, a gap between the local, national and supranational policies in place and current scientific evidence is unneglectable. Potential reasons for this gap are the insufficient or mistargeted dissemination of the research results, the tobacco industry interference, or the low priority of tobacco control policies in political agendas, among others.

The aim of this Symposium is to review the existing gaps between the scientific evidence from different areas of tobacco control and policies in place, their reasons and related challenges as well as to propose and debate on the steps the research community, policy makers and general public should take to bridge these gaps in the future.

The language of the Symposium will be English, with simultaneous translation into Spanish. Free registration.
